About the Founder Sarah Bonner.
Sarah has loved dogs her entire life. Ever since she could talk, she would beg and beg her mum for a dog. She had no idea where this inherent need came from but it was an instant obsession to say the least!
From the age of 3, every Christmas list would have just the one explicit request… a puppy. Each year Santa would receive the list; however, each year Sarah would peel away the wrapping paper to reveal… a stuffed dog; until the age of 6 when Santa upgraded to the battery-operated dogs. Innovative… but still not quite right. Mother Bonner finally caved in and at the ripe old age of 10, Sarah finally had her first dog!
In bounds Rory, the Kerry Blue Terrier from Dublin. At first glance he was too big and boisterous for Sarah… far from the tiny puppy she had envisaged… but fast forward 48 hours and she was head over heels (dogs have a knack for this!). Sarah committed to giving Rory the best life she could; attending every training session, researching the best foods, the best toys and relishing the opportunity to expand his doggy network (aka meeting the neighbours).
As Sarah grew, so did Rory and they became a force to be reckoned with. Rory had the best life - totally spoilt and full of love. He lived to a grand old age of 15(!) and after he passed, Sarah was certain she could never ever have another dog. Two years passed and with time, the pain slowly subsided (it never quite leaves).
She started ‘looking’ (just looking) and before she knew it, fate had delivered not one… but two Kerry blue sisters! In struts Nuala and a slightly less sophisticated Maeve; her Galway girls.
Maeve stayed in Kent with Sarah’s parents and Nuala fast became Sarah’s side kick. She snuck her way into the office, holidayed in France and Ireland and spent many an evening cuddled up on the sofa with Sarah. Nuala wasn’t just a dog, she was a friend and a force to be reckoned with. Sarah’s little sass pot.
In 2018, Nuala was diagnosed with Lymphoma and Sarah made it her mission to ensure she was as comfortable and cared for as her last years would allow. With a full time job, Sarah struggled to find the right person to care for Nuala, often driving her back to Kent to spend time with her sister. She would rather make the 3 ½ hour round trip than send her off in a van somewhere.
Pet sitting companies were too big and wouldn’t give her the right amount of attention and dog walking wasn’t enough. Sarah continued her search but nothing felt right.
Sarah was lucky to have a lovely friend nearby who was happy to help… and from this her business idea was born.
What Sarah need, was another Sarah. Someone who would care for Nuala as if she were their own, who intuitively knew what she needed… be it a walk in the park, a home cooked chicken dinner… or even popping on 101 Dalmations for some down time! Someone who recognised she was a special dog who needed that extra special care.
In 2019, Sarah sadly lost Nuala. Their 4 year partnership was short but profound. This loss hit a little harder but helped lead her to discover her real passion, and For The Love Of Bonner was born.
Offering that extra special care is paramount to the heart of For The Love Of Bonner and Sarah’s promise to you is that every single dog she welcomes into the fold, will be treated as her own, providing that extra special service for our 4-legged soul mates.
